6th May ’17: Steve Lovi, & that poor cat…

Hi folks.
Don’t you love it when you unearth things you haven’t seen for years? Chaos at The Colour File HQ means I can’t find my second-in-command’s waterproofs for an impending school trip but I’ve chanced upon a long-lost box of postcards. I collected these as a teenager (I know because I also meticulously dated them on the back), often from solo Saturday sojourns to the @vamuseum or the @tate. Amongst them are these utterly divine postcards by former @voguemagazine photographer & friend of @kaffefassettstudio Steve Lovi, all of which I had stuck on my bedroom wall. I first discovered his work when I cat-sat for an American neighbour in the late 80s. Her house was ultra-stylish and filled with flowers, ceramics and silks – objects just like the ones in these postcards. She also had a pile of Lovi’s postcards, the likes of which I’d never seen before. As she left for the airport, she asked me to regularly comb her long-haired cat. I have to confess, I was so busy admiring the incredible way the woman had flung objects and interiors together that her grooming instructions fell on deaf ears and so the fur-balls soon mounted up. The day before the woman got back, I remember chasing the cat around with a pair of scissors to remove the offending clods of fur. What? You don’t want me to look after your cat?…Suffice to say, when I look at these postcards, I think of the cat (sorry, cat) but also how they have been critical in shaping my own interiors style to this day. I hope you like them as much as I do.
