18th May ’17: The pull of Tiffany blue

Happy Thursday, colour-chums ๐Ÿ‘—๐Ÿ‘—๐Ÿ‘—
As you may know by now, the Colour File philosophy is pretty much ‘colour for colour’s sake’. Personally, I don’t think you ever need to make excuses for using colour boldly and brazenly. Since launching The Colour File I’ve learned that how colour makes people feel on an emotional level is highly subjective (one person’s ‘sad’ blue may give someone else lust for life). But when it comes to how they make people ACT, scientific studies abound, especially in relation to branding and consumer behaviour. Billions of pounds have been spent on fathoming which colours make us eat more, spend more, even feel we are investing in a slice of luxury. Robin egg blue is one of those for me – it’s the colour ofย @tiffanyandcoย (Pantone 1837, if you’re thinking of sprucing up your neglected front door) and a similar eau de Nil hue is used byย @fortnums. They never fail to make me think of drinking loose-leaf tea from wafer-thin porcelain cups, my treasured Tiffany star necklace, and strolling down Fifth Avenue in The Colour File’s ‘other favourite city’. Robin egg blue gets to my heart, but it also gets to my wallet….Aren’t these branding people clever, dang it?!?!! I’m curious – what colour gets to your heart, soul…and bank account?
