22nd August ’17: Banana yellow

Happy Tuesday, Colour Filers 🍌🍌🍌

My mum used to tell a story about being given her first ever banana. As an evacuee in Wales in the early 40s, bananas were rationed so her aunt was thrilled to have got hold of one for her. But when her aunt presented it with panache from behind her back, my three-year-old mum cried inconsolably – it wasn’t the hoped-for bright yellow like she’d seen in picture books, but brown, mottled and rather sorry-looking. I can’t ever see a banana without thinking of my tiny-tot mum’s disappointment (you’ll be pleased to know it had a happy ending: she got over her bitter disappointment and became a demon banana bread-maker). Have a tip-top day, folks.
