28 December 17: Colour to fool us

When we are kids, my brother and I always used to save the green sweets for Mum because we thought she loved them. Years on, she confessed that she pretended to like them because we didn’t. I guess that’s what mothers do ❤️

I recently read that the colour of sweets impacts how many we eat. A 2009 study found that people eat more from a mixed bowl of candy than they do from a single-coloured bowl. The researchers suggested it’s because a single colour gives the perception of bulk whereas a mixture fools the eye into thinking we are getting less.

I don’t know about you, but this Christmas I’ve managed to fool myself that I simply haven’t had enough sweets, regardless of colour. I feel a resolution coming on…
