26 March 18: Pick up a Penguin

Oooh, don’t you just LOVE a flight of coloured Penguins!

I’ve always wondered how the unmistakable logo came about and now I know. It was created in the 1930s by Edward ‘Teddy’ Young, a junior designer, when he was 21. Apparently he was sent to London Zoo to sketch the penguins before devising the logo we all know and love today. I love the idea of this hands-on research – no trawling the internet for images back then. Truly iconic.
