I’m off to Wales – the Land of my Fathers – where, I’ve been happily reassured, it’s a good 10 degrees lower than in London.
Controversial? What can I say? I’m just not designed for heat. My genes scream ‘Get in the shade!!!! Find a fan!!!!’
I’m designed to be half way up a lush green Welsh hill, looking (in the rain, naturally) for my sheep. Anyway, my impending trip has got me thinking about what colours I most associate with Wales.
Green, of course, from those rain-drenched valleys, and an opaque, milky teal for the sea in Cardigan Bay.
I don’t know if you’ve come across them, but the ‘50 Shades’ pictures by Emily Mackenzie are a genius representation of several countries, depicted by colours. ‘50 shades of Scotland’ includes Nessie (green) and Thistle (purple) while the England version has Pickled Egg (off-white) and Roast Beef (brown).
It’s got me thinking: this coming week I’m going to have a think about what colours define Wales, both generally but also my personal choices.
What a great way to spend time – nothing like a colour challenge. See you on the other side of the Severn Bridge.
