One of my favourite things is when my design heroes come together. That’s what I witnessed this morning when I went to see what a Kit Kemp/Andrew Martin combo looks like – and I have to tell you, it’s a wonderful thing. Martin Waller – founder of the eclectic and bonkers Andrew Martin – and Kit – interior designer and Firmdale Hotels co-founder – knew each other for years before finally deciding the time was right to get their creative heads together to bring out a fabric and wallpaper collection. The colour palette is neutrals accented with bold backgrounds of bright orange, blue, yellow and green (I adore the orange) and the themes are inspired by Native American art, American Folk Art and centuries-old tapestries. These include Mythical Land panel wallpaper complete with unicorns (see first pic: there’s one leaping on the left), as used in @firmdale_hotels Whitney Hotel in New York. ‘Martin can take something ordinary and make it extraordinary,’ says Kit, of her collaborator. ‘And Kit’s trademark is courage with colour,’ says Martin. ‘She is the bravest of the brave.’ Visit www.andrewmartin.co.uk for more info.
