Eduardo Paolozzi’s London Underground mosaics

Have you ever noticed something for the first time that you’ve actually seen a million times before? I had that the other day when I was at a Tube station and actually took a moment to look around me.

It was Tottenham Court Road and the thing I noticed was the mosaics on the walls (bottom left).

Covering 950 square metres, they’re by famous pop artist Eduardo Paolozzi and contain references to London life in a number of ways, from its entertainment culture and urban economy through to its rushing commuters.

They’re absolutely stunning. Next time you’re there, endure the wrath of the teaming crowds to stand resolute and look at these multicoloured masterpieces for a while. It’s worth the tutting.
