Frida Kahlo’s colourful diary entry

Colouring pencils excite and inspire me: they are representative of a universe of creative possibilities.

They also make me think of Frida Kahlo and her diary entry about what her colouring pencils conjured up in her mind

Keen to see what associations might emerge when she used each individual colour, she sharpened her pencils ‘to the point of infinity’ and started to write.

So much revealed itself, from dark blue (the colour of bad advertisements) through to yellow (madness, sickness, fear, part of the sun and of happiness) and olive (leaves, sadness, science, the whole of Germany is this colour).

I love this, how her scribblings unlocked these associations and connections (or disconnections) with specific colours in what turned out to be a curious and charming way. I think I might try this, too. Fancy joining me?
