When we did Shakespeare at school, I loved any reference to colours
For example, Othello’s ‘green-eyed monster’ (not to mention black rams and white ewes…) and the ‘lily-livered’ knave referred to in King Lear particularly spring to mind.
These colour name checks helped to bring the plays alive for me, adding another dimension to build upon the black and white of the text.
