Yellow covers for ‘smart thinking’ books

Hello lovely people

I was just lusting over my pile of beloved Penguin poetry books and it got me thinking about the choice of book cover colours.

The process doesn’t just happen by plucking colours from the air: like so many things to do with colour, there’s method and reasoning to it.

I’ve mentioned before that yellow covers tend to be used for motivational (‘smart thinking’) tomes.

Well, apparently, purple denotes depth, wealth, mystery and fantasy. From what I’ve read about Byron, this maverick poet with a brief but scandalous and excessive life is well-deserving of his purple cover in this pile.

Oh, and the non-conformist back-to-front writing on the spine, too. In art as in life.
