The story of coral colour

After the punchy Ultra Violet of 2018, Pantone gave us Living Coral for its 2019 Colour of the Year.

Living Coral is like the soothing virtual hug we all seem to need while politics near and far makes us feel exposed and uncertain.

Historically, coral as a protector has its origins in Roman times when it was used to protect children against evil. And even Renaissance pictures of Jesus as a baby depict him holding or wearing coral.

Pliny the Elder suggested that the allure of temptresses could be counteracted by coral. Protection all round, then?

I’m loving this hue and I’m looking forward to seeing how it plays out in all its glory in interiors, fashion and beyond (coral sunsets aplenty, please, Nature). Welcome, Living Coral. Lovely to meet you.
