17 January 18: Keep your hands off our candles!

When I was a kid, I remember canvassers knocking on the door at election time, hoping for good news. As well as being told to confusingly tell them ‘There’s one vote for you and one for the others’ (I have visions of coming across like Karen from Outnumbered) I witnessed my grandfather telling them he’d ‘vote for anyone who promises to put trees in my avenue’ (he explained that it wasn’t truly an avenue without them). Of all the political talk recently, amidst the chaos, there’s been heinous whisperings of doing something about candles. What? What?! WHAT??!!! Leave the candles alone, Gove! Step away from the candles! (Oh, and while you’re at it, hands off my wood-burning stove, too) While the rest of the country is stashing prescription meds and food in the event of a no-deal Brexit, my thoughts are turning to candles and the prospect of filling every cupboard with these colourful beauties. Could it be candles that stoke me into action? Stranger things have happened in politics 😁
