The medicinal power of sweet peas

When I was a health writer at The Sun, I researched a piece about pharmaceutical remedies found deep beneath the sea.

I’m fascinated by how we’re able to make use of unexpected remedies from nature, especially plants, and today I learned of how the dainty sweet pea could hold the key for better post-operative skin graft care.

The seeds of this fragrant beauty contain a chemical that prevents collagen from cross-linking and causing skin to contract after a skin graft – something that can cause discomfort and even disfigurement.

Clever nature. As if sheer beauty wasn’t enough.
