My colourful childhood dressing-up trunk

Oh my gosh, just LOOK at these beauties!!

Rail after rail of colour-organised vintage dresses, spotted at @topshop in Oxford Street. What do you think of when you see a rail like this? Apart from plotting about what event I can get away with wearing marabou feathers at this summer, it makes me think of my dressing-up box as a child – a huge trunk from my mum’s boarding school days.

As well as being capacious enough to hide in (which I often did), it was brimming with tantalising outfits and accessories. There were heaps of silk dresses (a legacy of the seven times Mum had been a bridesmaid) including a smoky blue moire number with a diamanté brooch on it.

There were also two GLORIOUS pairs of stacked high heels – one navy pair and one turquoise blue – that I never learned the provenance of but I’m sure had seen some good times. I’d clack around in those for hours, generally while wearing a net curtain veil, countless necklaces and stacks of bangles like some 70s fusion bride.

What do you remember about your childhood dressing up box?
