Here are some pretty Penguins for your delectation…
The colours add beauty to the tomes and you’ll often see them on social media interiors accounts, whether in clusters of orange and blue or the whole range from red through to purple and cerise.
However, the colours weren’t primarily introduced to look pretty but rather they acted as guidance when they were in wide circulation from WW2 to the 1960s.
The meaning behind vintage Penguin book colours
Green = crime novels
Cerise = travel and adventure
Dark blue = biography
Red = drama
Purple = essays
Yellow = miscellaneous
Do you have any of these little beauties in your possession? Which is your favourite colour? I’m partial to the yellow. And the pink. Oh, and the lilac….
